In this workshop we will work our way from subtle touch toward lofted moments. We will begin with a partner-led touch activation warm up and titrate toward weight-bearing on all 4's and standing. We will work toward reciprocal lifts that allow each partner moments of flight. Please expect class to orient toward lifting one another off the ground—seeking both awareness and adventure, attunement and ambition. We will practice with rigorous consent and open channels of communication. This class is for folks with prior experience with contact improvisation and/or contemporary partnering.
Hannah Krafcik (they/them) and Phoebe Harrison (she/they) have been delving into contact improvisation practices and skills together. Pulling from their unique bodies of knowledge they've collaborated to explore some of the techniques of contact improvisation that lead to flying, in tandem with their creation process for an upcoming work-in-progress showing, Peter Pan (July, 11th). This co-taught workshop is the culmination of their month-long collaboration using cycles of labbing and discussion to research and fine-tune their shared practice.
